Hint for Section 1.1 Question 1

1a) The word "but" is often used instead of "and".

b) "neither ... nor" is the negation of "either ... or". Think of this sentence in two parts: first deal with "Jane likes neither mathematics nor chemisty" and then deal with "... but does not like biology" keeping in mind the hint from part a).

c) "either .. or " gives the two parts of the statement which must appear in a statement involving the logical connective V. Thus " Sam will come to the party and Max will not" is the first part of the statement and "Sam won't come to the party and Max will enjoy himself at the party" is the second part of the statement. These two parts must be separated by a V.
